This essay is going to be about Hurricane Katrina and the damage it caused on many states, and especially on Louisiana. The hurricane hit the Bahamas, South Florida, Cuba, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and most of most of eastern North America. This hurricane was one of the worst catastrophes to ever hit the U.S.A. This hurricane killed 1,836 and left 705 people missing. The damage was costing from $81.2 billion dollars to $89.6 billion dollars. Hurricane Katrina had winds up to 175 mph, making it one of the most devastating and costly Natural Disaster to ever hit the U.S.A. This made the president declare a state of emergency. It also made made people worry about there relatives living in the area.
This destructive hurricane struck the city of New Orleans on August 25, 2005. It killed 1,577 people out of the 1,836 killed in total. This hurricane was so powerful that it knocked down the levees that were keeping the city from flooding. Many people were stranded on there roofs and the rest were drowning. The superdome is where thousands of scared people fled to the Superdome. During the Hurricane the Superdome also suffered damage, tearing off sections of the roof. After the hurricane many people saw dead bodies lying on the city streets. Also in parts were the city was still flooded many people saw floating dead bodies.
At the time president Bush declared a state of emergency on regions of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. What astonished most people were the fact that President Bush did not declare a state of emergency on Louisiana’s coastal Perishes. These coastal perishes were hit the hardest and there was non state of emergency called on it. Many people found this decision very shocking because governor Blanco had not put the Perishes in her request for help. “In fact, the declaration did not include any of Louisiana’s coastal perishes, where as the coastal counties were included in the declarations for Mississippi, and Alabama” (www.wikipedia.com).
I interviewed Mrs. Lorena Tlatenchi. She said that “I felt devastated and thought how some thing this horrible can can happen so quickly. I have seen and been through a lot of horrible things but I have never seen any thing this horrible. This event definitely had a huge impact on every body. It left a lot of people homeless and left many dead and a lot of people worried. A lot of people were too afraid to go back to there own house so they moved to different states. When I saw the images on the news I thought to myself how many people died”. There you have it another person’s opinion about hurricane Katrina.
This is why hurricane Katrina was considered one of the most costly and destructive Natural disaster to have ever hit the U.S.A. People today are still shocked that President Bush did not call a state of emergency on the coastal perishes of New Orleans. Many people are also still suffering from the loved ones lost in the hurricane. This proves that t6his was the most horrible Natural Disaster to ever hit the U.S.A.
